Isolation gas is used to purge, isolate, seal and protect equipment and piping, typically nitrogen or instrument air. In chemical, oil & gas and pharmaceutical plants, isolation gas prevents hazardous media from flowing back, makes hot work safe, protects instruments and seals, and is essential for safe operation.
1. Purging before hot work: replace flammable media in piping and tanks with nitrogen and keep a positive barrier;
2. Barrier on hazardous lines: inject isolation gas at flanges and valves to stop process leakage and air ingress;
3. Shaft seal gas: continuous gas supply to pump, compressor and mixer seals to stop leakage and cool the faces;
4. Instrument protection: purge instrument cavities and impulse lines to prevent crystallization, plugging and corrosion.
Isolation gas must stay positive and above the process pressure to work:
1. Isolation nitrogen is typically 0.1-0.3 MPa above the process pressure;
2. Seal gas is set per the equipment manufacturer, usually cavity pressure + 0.05-0.15 MPa;
3. Provide pressure regulation and a low-pressure alarm so a gas failure never breaks the barrier.
When only a low-pressure nitrogen source is available, a gas booster pump supplies the required isolation pressure: low-pressure nitrogen → filter → gas booster pump → receiver → points of use. The booster delivers a stable, continuous supply; with a receiver and pressure switch it auto-compensates and suits multi-point isolation duty.
Jinan Shangling Technology supplies nitrogen/air booster pumps and complete isolation gas supply systems up to 100 MPa, with automatic makeup, low-pressure alarm and explosion-proof options, custom-designed for your point count and pressure requirements.
